Set up the litter tray

Empty the old litter and wash the tray with a cat-appropriate cleaner.
Rinse away cleaner residue and let the tray dry completely.
Follow the delivered bag’s instructions for litter depth and use.
Spread the litter evenly and place the tray in a quiet, accessible location.
Scoop faeces and wet clumps every day.
Top up only as needed, then replace and wash the full tray regularly.

The RSPCA litter-tray guidance recommends daily waste removal, regular cleaning, enough litter for normal digging and attention to individual preference. Keep trays away from food and water.

Australian disposal: do not flush cat litter

Do not flush used cat litter. Toowoomba Regional Council’s toilet guidance includes cat litter marketed as flushable among the items that must stay out of toilets. Follow your local council’s waste-disposal rules for used litter and clumps.

Safety and storage

Use only in cat litter trays; do not allow ingestion.
Pour gently and avoid breathing airborne dust.
Avoid eye contact and wash hands after handling used litter.
Store the selected bag sealed in a cool, dry place and protect it from humidity.
Read and follow the current bag’s instructions and warnings.
